Ioannes 53 was bishop of Andrapa in Helenopontus; in 681 he attended the Third Council of Constantinople (the Sixth Ecumenical Council) and was present at two of the last three sessions (sessions sixteen and eighteen, on 9 August and 16 September): Riedinger II 2. 690-826 (= Mansi XI 616-676). In the subscriptions to the statement of the faith, which condemned monotheletism, and in the signatures to the Council, he is styled Ἰωάννης ἐλέει Θεοῦ ἐπίσκοπος τῆς Ἀνδραπηνῶν πόλεως: Riedinger II 2. 792, line 7, 826, line 28 (= Mansi XI 649, 676). The old Latin version printed in Riedinger II 2. 793, line 8, calls his see "Andrapinae ciuitatis". In the lists of those attending each session he is styled Ἰωάννου ἐπισκόπου Ἀνδράπων: Riedinger II 2. 690, line 19, 760, line 29 (= Mansi XI 616, 628).

Probably identical with Ioannes, bishop of the city of Andrapa, owner of a seal dateable to the seventh century: Laurent, Corpus V 1, no. 430. Obv.: [+] [Ι]ω - αννου - επισκο - που. Rev.: <πο>λεως - Ανδρα - πον (sic).
