Ioannes 50 was bishop of Anaia (Anea) in Asiana; in 681 he attended the Third Council of Constantinople (the Sixth Ecumenical Council) and was present at two of the last three sessions (sessions sixteen and eighteen, on 9 August and 16 September): Riedinger II 2. 688-826 (= Mansi XI 613-676). In the subscriptions to the statement of the faith, which condemned monotheletism, and to the Council, he is styled Ἰωάννης ἐλέει Θεοῦ ἐπίσκοπος τῆς Ἀνεατῶν πόλεως (Riedinger II 2. 826, line 9 (= Mansi XI 676) reads: τῆς Ἄνεων) τῆς Ἀσιανῶν ἐπαρχίας: Riedinger II 2. 788, line 9, 826, line 9 (= Mansi XI 648, 676). The old Latin version printed in Mansi at XI 647 wrongly calls his see "Amathuntorum Asianae regionis", but that at XI 675 reads: "civitatis Aneatarum Asianae provinciae". The Riedinger version, II 2. 789, line 9 (= Mansi XI 647) corresponds with the correct Mansi version at XI 675, calling him "episcopus Aneatorum ciuitatis Asiane regionis". In the lists of those present at each session he is styled Ἰωάννου ἐπισκόπου Ἀνέων: Riedinger II 2. 688, line 16, 758, line 26 (= Mansi XI 613, 628) (the old Latin version reads "Ioanne episcopo Amathuntorum" in the Mansi edition at XI 627, but "Iohanne episcopo Aneorum" in the corresponding place in the Riedinger edition at II 2. 759, line 27). Still bishop of Anaia in 692, he attended the Quinisext Council in Constantinople and signed the canons: Ohme, Bischofsliste, p. 153, no. 75 (= Mansi XI 993) (Ἰωάννης ἀνάξιος ἐπίσκοπος πόλεως Ἀνέων τῆς Ἀσιανῶν ἐπαρχίας).
