Ioannes 34 was bishop of Daskylion (Dascylium) in Bithynia (or Hellespontos, cf. below); he attended the Third Council of Constantinople (the Sixth Ecumenical Council) in 680 and 681 and was present at all eighteen sessions: Riedinger II 2. 18-827 (= Mansi XI 212-677). In the subscriptions to the statement of the faith, which condemned monotheletism, he is styled Ἰωάννης ἐλέει Θεοῦ ἐπίσκοπος τῆς Δασκυλεωτῶν πόλεως τῆς Ἑλλησποντίων ἐπαρχίας: Riedinger II 2. 790, line 12 (= Mansi XI 649) (the old Latin version printed in Mansi XI 650, calls his see "Dascylii Hellesponti". The Riedinger version, however, II 2. 791, line 15, calls his see "Dascilii Bitiniae"). In the subscriptions to the Council he is styled Ἰωάννης ἐλέει Θεοῦ ἐπίσκοπος τῆς Δασκυλεωτῶν πόλεως; Riedinger II 2. 827, line 11 (= Mansi XI 677). The old Latin version printed in Mansi at this point calls his see "Dascylii Bithyniae regionis": Mansi XI 677-678. In the lists of those attending each session he is styled Ἰωάννου ἐπισκόπου Δασκυλίου: Riedinger II 2. 18, line 6, 30, line 8, etc. (= Mansi XI 212, 220, etc.). Still bishop of Daskylion in 692, he attended the Quinisext Council in Constantinople and signed the canons: Ohme, Bischofsliste, p. 156, no. 96 (= Mansi XI 996) (Ἰωάννης ἀνάξιος ἐπίσκοπος πόλεως Δασκυλίου τῆς Βιθυνῶν ἐπαρχίας).
