Ibrahim 1 was the brother of Yezid 4; on his brother's death in 744 he succeeded him as caliph at Damascus; his troops were quickly crushed near Damascus by those of Marwan 2: Theoph. AM 6235 (ὁ Ἰζὶδ καταλείψας Ἀβραΐμ, τὸν ἑαυτοῦ ἀδελφόν). Brother of Yezid 4; after the death of his brother he was chosen as his successor by the people of Damascus: Chron. 1234, §171 (pp. 316-317). He has apparently been confused in this source with Ibrahim 2. It states, rightly, that he was soon overthrown and taken prisoner by Marwan 2: Chron. 1234, §172 (pp. 317-318). However the further statements about him appear to refer to Ibrahim 2. Ibrahim 1 was caliph in 744. He succeeded his brother Yezid 4 as ruler of the Arabs for a few days: Mich. Syr. II 503, 505.
