Ianouarios 1 was vestiarius of pope Hadrian I (Hadrianos 1): Lib. Pont. 97. 64 (cited below), 97. 67 (cited below). Entrusted by the pope with the task of replacing roofbeams in St Peter's at Rome and given a large workforce: Lib. Pont. 97. 64 ("mittens Ianuarium vestiarium suum, cognoscens eum idoneam personam, cum multitudine populi"). This work is recorded also in a letter sent by pope Hadrianos 1 to Charlemagne (Karoulos 1) (Codex Carolinus, no. 65, with n. 5), dateable to 779 or 780; the letter does not mention Ianuarios 1, but implies that the wood was sought from the district of Spoletium, where Ianuarios 1 was presumably sent. He was also given the task by Hadrianos 1, again with a large workforce, of replacing all the roofbeams of the Basilica of St Paul: Lib. Pont. 97. 67 ("disponens Ianuarium fidelissimum vestiarium suum cum multitudinem populi").
