Hunald 1 was dux of Aquitania; in the time of pope Stephen III (II) (Stephanos 8) (752-757) Hunald 1 came to Rome and vowed to remain there, but later broke his word and deserted to the Lombards; he eventually died by stoning: Lib. Pont. 94. 4 (later recension only) ("huius temporibus adveniens Hunaldus, dux Aquitaniae"). He had perhaps entered a monastery at Rome.
