Hieronymos 2 was a Frank and the brother of Pepin 1; in 754 he and other Frankish nobles were sent by Pepin 1 to escort pope Stephen III (II) (Stephanos 8) back to Rome after the treaty of Pavia between the Franks, Romans and Lombards: Lib. Pont. 94. 38 (later recension) ("missos suos, fratrem suum Hieronimum atque alios proceres suos"). Duchesne, Lib. Pont., p. 459, n. 40, refers to the Genealogia Comitum Flandriae (in MGH, SS IX, p. 302) which names Hieronymos 2 as one of the sons of Charles Martel (Karoulos 2) born "ex concubina"; the information on him in the Annales Fuldenses of Einhard is, says Duchesne, based on the Liber Pontificalis.
