PmbZ No. | 2559 |
Variant Names | Herakleios |
Seal Sources | Speck, P. et al. (eds.), Byzantinische Bleisiegel in Berlin (West) (Bonn, 1986) |
Heraklios 6 was the owner of a seal dateable to the sixth or seventh century, or possibly not before the ninth (see below): Speck, Bleisiegel 25. Obv.: cruciform monogram, partly lost, probably of Θεοτόκε βοήθει. Rev.: cruciform monogram of Ηρακλιο (Ἡρακλίῳ or Ἡρακλίου). The sketch of the obverse monogram in Speck puts the beta in the shape of a capital Latin R, a form not found before the early to mid ninth century; however, the photograph suggests that the R had a bar along its foot, so the earlier date may be correct.
