Heraklios 4 was bishop of the island of Samos; in 787 he attended the Second Council of Nikaia (the Seventh Ecumenical Council), where he is attested only at the seventh session; in the list of those present then he is styled Ἡρακλείου ἐπισκόπου τῆς Σάμου: Mansi XIII 373. At the seventh session he subscribed the statement of the faith adopted by the Council; he is styled Ἡράκλειος ἀνάξιος ἐπίσκοπος τῆς Σάμου: Mansi XIII 396.
