Hadrianos 4 was a monk, one of the brothers in the monastery of St Porphyrios founded by Petros 34 of Atroa; he fell ill and died before Petros 34 could hear his confession; Petros 34 allegedly revived him and heard his confession, and then he died again: Vita Petr. Atr. 47 (p. 163), Vita Petr. Atr. Retractata 65 (pp. 121-2). The monastery was on the river Rhyndakos, near lake Apollonias; see Laurent, La Vie merveilleuse, intro., p. 140. The date was after the foundation of the monastery (perhaps 813/820, under Leo V, i.e. Leo 15) and before the death of Petros 34 in 837.
