Gregorios 138 was a spatharokandidatos; addressee of a letter from the patriarch Photios 1, of uncertain date; he had written to Photios 1 for advice about a theological problem, and received this letter in reply: Photius, Ep. 30 (I 80f. Laourdas-Westerink) addressed Γρηγορίῳ σπαθαροκανδιδάτῳ αἰτησαμένῳ λύσιν ἀπορίας ).
