Gregorios 97 was basilikos protospatharios and kommerkiarios of Debelton; owner of a seal dateable between the mid ninth century and the early tenth: Zacos, Seals II 159 bis. Obv.: patriarchal cross on base and four steps; circular inscription of +Κ(ύρι)ε βοήθει τῷ σῷ δούλῳ. Rev.: + Γρηγο - ρ' β' α' σπαθ' - (καὶ) κουμερ - κ' Δεβελτ'. All the betas are in the form of a capital latin R, indicating a date not before the early ninth century. The name and titles read: Γρηγορ(ίῳ or ᾷ) β(ασιλικῷ) (πρωτο)σπαθ(αρίῳ) καὶ κουμερκ(ιαρίῳ) Δεβέλτ(ου). Two other seals probably belonging to the same person are published in Iordanov, Debelton VI 3, 1 and 2. 1) reads: obv.: κ(ύρι)ε βοήθη τω σω δουλ(); rev.: +Γρηγ - ορ' β' α' σπ - αθ' (καὶ) κουμε - ρκιαρ' τ' Δ - εβέλτ(ου). 2) reads: obv.: κ(ύρι)ε βοήθη τω σω δούλω; rev.: +- Γρηγο - ρ' β' α' σπαθ' - (καὶ) κουμερ - κ' Δεβελτ' -+. He was therefore: Γρηγορ(ίῳ or ᾆ βασιλικῷ πρωτοσπαθαρίῳ καὶ κουμερκιαρίῳ τῆς Δεβέλτου.
