Gregorios 95 was the brother of the archbishop of Ravenna, Ioannes 315: Lib. Pont. 107. 26, 50. He was involved with his brother in the illegal seizure of properties in Ravenna, Aemilia and Pentapolis: Lib. Pont. 107. 26. In 864 he and his brother were summoned before a council in the Lateran palace and deposed ("idem depositi") because of their illegal activities, resumed in spite of their oaths and solemn undertakings, and other actions directed against the see of Rome and those subject to the authority of the bishop of Rome: Lib. Pont. 107. 50. The language, taken strictly, implies that Gregorios 95 was also a cleric, like his brother, and even a bishop (since they were apparently both deposed). This however may be to take the text too literally.
