Gregorios 74 was supposedly the fourth successor of St Auxentius as leader of the holy men living on Mt Auxentius ("the succession of Fathers who ruled the mountain and lived enclosed in the holy cave"); his predecessor was Bendemianos and his successor was Ioannes 234 (εἶθ' οὕτως τέταρτος Γρηγόριος ὁ ἐγκρατὴς καὶ τῆς ἱερᾶς πολιάδος ἀνάπλεως): Vita Steph. Iun. 102.21-22 (1088D). His dates were perhaps in the middle of the seventh century.
