Gregorios 53 was basilikos spatharios and archon of Herakleia; owner of a seal dateable to the ninth or tenth century: DOSeals I 53.1 (IX/X) = Zacos and Veglery 1974 (L IX/E X). Obv.: Θεοτόκε βοήθει [τ]ῷ σῷ [δ]ούλῳ. Rev.: Γριγ[ο]ρίῳ β(ασιλικῷ) σπ[α(θαρίῳ)] (καὶ) ἄρχον[τ(ι)] Ἡρακ(λείας). This man is the only known archon of Herakleia, but which Herakleia is meant is uncertain; the editors of DOSeals, Nesbitt and Oikonomides, prefer the one in Thrace as being the most important; see DOSeals I, p. 135, note.
