Gregorios 43 was a monk and hegoumenos of the monastery of St Sergios; in 787 he attended the Second Council of Nikaia (the Seventh Ecumenical Council) and is attested at the second session, where he spoke in support of the traditional veneration of icons as described in statements from pope Hadrian I (Hadrianos 1); he is styled Γρηγόριος ὁ εὐλαβέστατος μοναχὸς καὶ ἡγούμενος τοῦ ἁγίου Σεργίου: Mansi XII 1111.
