Gregorios 16 was bishop of Arke in Armenia Prima; in 681 he attended the Third Council of Constantinople (the Sixth Ecumenical Council) and was present at two of the last three sessions (sessions sixteen and eighteen, on 9 August and 16 September): Riedinger, II 2. 690-827 (= Mansi XI 615-676). In the old Latin version of the list of those attending the sixteenth session at Mansi XI 615 his name is given as "Georgius"; elsewhere he is called "Gregorius". At the equivalent place in Riedinger, II 2. 691, line 22, he is called Gregorios. In the list of subscriptions to the statement of the faith, which condemned monotheletism, he is styled Γρηγόριος ἐλέει Θεοῦ ἐπίσκοπος πόλεως Ἄρκης τῆς πρώτης τῶν Ἀρμενίων ἐπαρχίας: Riedinger, II 2. 792, line 10 (= Mansi XI 649). In the list of signatures to the Council he is styled Γρηγόριος ἐλέει Θεοῦ ἐπίσκοπος πόλεως Ἄρκης Ἀρμενίας: Riedinger, II 2. 827, line 2 (= Mansi XI 676). The old Latin version printed in Riedinger, II 2. 793, line 11, calls his see "ciuitatis Arcis primae Armeniae regionis". In the lists of those present at each session he is styled Γρηγορίου ἐπισκόπου Ἄρκης: Riedinger, II 2. 690, line 22, II 2. 760, line 32 (= Mansi XI 616, 628).
