Gisus 1 was bishop of Firmum ("Gisus, episcopus ecclesiae Firmane"); in 844 he was one of the Italian bishops who attended the Council of Rome with Drogo 1; they were not summoned by their metropolitans but they went because they had criticisms to make against pope Sergius II (Sergios 60): Lib. Pont. 104. 14. One MS spells his name "Giso". He was perhaps, to judge by his name, of Lombard descent.
