Gisela 1 was daughter of the Frankish king, Pepin 1; in 765 the emperor Constantine V (Konstantinos 7) sent two envoys to Pepin, viz. Anthimos 17 and Synesios 2, to discuss a possible marriage between Gisela 1 and the son of Konstantinos 7, Leo 4: MGH, Epp. III 1, 545ff. (Ep. 36, letter of pope Paul, Paulos 49), 562 (Ep. 45, letter of pope Stephen IV (III), Stephanos 84).
