Georgios 286, known as Hamartolos (Ἁμάρτολος) or Monachos, was the author of a chronicle ending with the year 842 (cf. Georg. Mon. I, p. 1 (Πρόλογος χρονικῆς ἱστορίας Γεωργίου μοναχοῦ); he lived in the middle or late ninth century, but nothing further is known of him; his Chronicon is published by C. de Boor, 2 vols. (Leipzig, 1904) and reprinted with corrections by P. Wirth (Stuttgart, 1978). See further ODB II 836 with references.
