Georgios 173 was apo hypaton and probably kommerkiarios of the andrapoda of the Slavs of Cappadocia Prima and Secunda; owner of a seal dated to 694/695: Zacos and Veglery 188 (text improved by Hunger, BZ 68 (1975), p. 138). Obv.: image of Justinian II (Ioustinianos 1), traces of a circular inscription, and the date of the eighth indiction. Rev.: των [α] - νδραπο[δ] - .ν τον κ.. - .ον α και β Κ[α] - .αδοκι - ας. The name and titles are restored by comparison with a series of other seals all to be attributed to the same person, and the full text reads: [Γεωργίῳ ἀπὸ ὑπάτων] τῶν ἀνδραπόδων τῶν [Σ] κλ(άβ)ων α' καὶ β' Καππαδοκίας. Presumably some title such as kommerkiarios is omitted. See further Zacos and Veglery, Seals, table 8, where all the seals are listed.
