Georgios 70 was hegoumenos of the monastery (of the Hagia Theotokos) of the Pege at Constantinople; in 787 he attended the Second Council of Nikaia (the Seventh Ecumenical Council), where he is attested at the second session, on 26 September; he there supported the traditional veneration of icons as described in statements from pope Hadrian I (Hadrianos 1): Mansi XII 1111 (Γεώργιος ὁ εὐλαβέστατος ἡγούμενος τῆς Πηγῆς). Possibly he is identical with Georgios 72 (Γεώργιος ἡγούμενος τῆς ἁγίας Θεοτόκου), attested at the fourth session where he subscribed the statements read out from the Fathers in support of the veneration of icons: Mansi XIII 156.
