Georgios 17 was bishop of Kyzikos in Hellespontus; he attended the Third Council of Constantinople (the Sixth Ecumenical Council) in 680 and 681, and was present at all the eighteen sessions: Riedinger, pp. 16-823 (= Mansi XI 209-669). In the subscriptions to the statement of the faith, which condemned monotheletism, and to the Council, he is styled Γεώργιος ἐλέει Θεοῦ ἐπίσκοπος τῆς Κυζικηνῶν μητροπόλεως τῆς Ἑλλησποντίων ἐπαρχίας: Riedinger, p. 780, line 15, p. 823, line 11, cf. p. 892, line 3 (= Mansi XI 641, 669, cf. 689). In the lists of those attending each session he is styled Γεωργίου ἐπισκόπου Κυζίκου: Riedinger, p. 16, line 23, p. 28, line 27 etc. (= Mansi XI 209, 217, etc.) At the eighth session (7 March 681) he declared his acceptance of the doctrine of Two Wills and Two Energies as set out in documents from pope Agatho 1 and the Roman Council: Riedinger, p. 198, lines 6-11 (= Mansi XI 338). At the twelfth session (March 22) he was sent with bishop Ioannes 32 and others to see Makarios 1 and check if certain documents brought before the Council were really his: Riedinger, p. 560, line 4 (= Mansi XI 544-545). He was one of the signatories of the copy of the definition of the faith sent to the bishop of Rome, signing on behalf of the bishops under him as well as himself: Riedinger, p. 892, line 3 (= Mansi XI 689) ( ὑπὲρ ἐμαυτοῦ καὶ τῆς ὑπ'ἐμὲ συνόδου).
