Gaugenos 1 was bishop of Turones (Tours) (or perhaps of Rodez); he was one of the twelve bishops from Francia sent by Charlemagne and Carloman (Karoulos 1 and Karoulomannos 2) to attend the Council of Rome in April 769; they were all chosen for their knowledge of Scripture and canon law (see text cited under Ado 2): Lib. Pont. 96. 17 ("Gaugeno, episcopo civitate Toronensis"). The name of his see is uncertain, and it may have been Rodez, not Tours. Named fifth in the list of bishops from Francia.
