Galaton 2 was protospatharios and asekretis; brother of the asekretis Leo 262; addressee of five letters from the patriarch Photius (Photios 1), three jointly with his brother: Photius, Ep. 56 (I 103 Laourdas-Westerink; c. 872/874?; addressed Γαλάτωνι ἀσηκρῆτις), Ep. 106 (I 146 Laourdas-Westerink; c. 859/September 867; addressed Λέοντι καὶ Γαλάτωνι ἀδελφοῖς καὶ ἀσηκρῆτις), Ep. 192 (II 92f. Laourdas-Westerink; uncertain date; addressed Γαλάτωνι πρωτοσπαθαρίῳ καὶ ἀσηκρῆτις), Ep. 219 (II 127ff. Laourdas-Westerink; uncertain date), Ep. 232 (II 148f. Laourdas-Westerink; c. 872/874?) (both addressed Λέοντι καὶ Γαλάτωνι ἀδελφοῖς ἀσηκρῆτις).

The titles and dates of the letters suggest that Galaton 2 was asekretis from at least 867 to 872, and also that he acquired the title of protospatharios in or after 872 (Ep. 192 therefore dates in or after 872). According to Ep. 56 a friend of Galaton 2 had slandered Photius (Photios 1), who wrote advising Galaton 2 to avoid him.
