Flavianus 1's paternal uncle ("patruus") was Felix 6; he was the teacher ("praeceptor") of Paul the Deacon (Paulos 52): Paul. Diac., Hist. Lang. VI 7. He presumably lived in the mid eighth century. Since his uncle was famous "in arte grammatica", Flavianus probably studied under him and was himself Paul's teacher in grammar.
