Eustratios 21 was hegoumenos; addressee of a letter from Theodoros 15 (Theodore the Stoudite) written between 821 and 826; during the iconoclast persecution under Leo V (Leo 15) he appeared to have abandoned the iconophile cause when he produced a pamphlet that was ambiguous in its content (τὴν ὑποκριτικὴν ὑπογραφήν: p. 632, line 5); he had undergone arrest and imprisonment but was later released, presumably after issuing the pamphlet; later he repented of his action, at which Theodoros expressed his delight while also threatening Eustratios with a penance; he is styled τὴν ὁσιότητά σου (p. 632, line 3) and addressed as πατέρων φίλτατε (p. 632, line 2) and τιμιώτατε (p. 632, line 5): Theod. Stud., Ep. 448, pp. 632-633 (addressed Εὐστρατίῳ ἡγουμένῳ). Presumably identical with the hegoumenos Eustratios for whom Theodoros composed a dogmatic letter: Theod. Stud., Ep. 496, pp. 731-732 (addressed Θεόδωρος ὑπὲρ Εὐστρατίου ἡγουμένου) (the date is unknown).
