Eustratios 20 was an envoy of the emperor (Michael II, i.e. Michael 10) to the iconophiles in exile, he was sent to inform them of their recall from exile and of the summoning of a Council to debate the issue of the veneration of icons; he is mentioned in a sermon of Theodoros 15 (Theodore the Stoudite), who describes him as "our spiritual brother the Lord Eustratios" (ὁ πνευματικὸς ἡμῶν ἀδελφὸς κύριος Εὐστράτιος): Theod. Stud., Catech. Parva 116 (p. 399 Auvray). He was evidently of high rank (κύριος); he was possibly a monk who was known to Theodoros 15 and who was a supporter of the veneration of icons.
