Euphemia 5 was a nun, a recluse and the hegoumene of a monastery; addressee of a letter from Theodoros 15 (Theodore the Stoudite), written between 815 and 820; Euphemia 5 had become a nun at an early age (ἀπὸ πρώτης ἡλικίας ᾑρετίσω τὸν σταυροφόρον βίον: p. 576, lines 5-6); she is styled τῇ τιμιότητί σου (p. 576, line 2) and addressed as κυρία (p. 576, line 8) and νύμφη Χριστοῦ (p. 576, line 7): Theod. Stud., Ep. 413, pp. 576-577 (addressed Εὐφημίᾳ ἐγκλειστῇ). She is probably identical with the unnamed recluse to whom another letter of Theodoros 15 was addressed, also written between 815 and 820; she had written to Theodoros 15 asking for advice as an hegoumene (ἡ καθηγουμένη οὕτω καθηγείσθω ὡς Χριστοῦ ἐπέχουσα χαρακτῆρα: p. 537, line 20); Euphemia 5 was urged by Theodoros 15 to support the veneration of icons; she is styled σου τῆς εὐλαβείας (p. 537, line 2): Theod.Stud., Ep. 387, pp. 537-538 (addressed Ἐγκλειστῇ).
