Textual SourcesNikaia, Second Council of (Seventh Ecumenical Council, a. 787) (Mansi XII-XIII) (conciliar)

Eudoxios 1 was a monk and priest, in 787 he attended the Second Council of Nikaia (the Seventh Ecumenical Council) as representative of the see of Metellopolis (in Phrygia Pacatiana); he is attested at the fourth and seventh sessions, on 1 October and 13 October 787, and perhaps attended the last five sessions, from 1 October to 23 November 787: Mansi XIII 149-486. In the list of those present at the seventh session he is styled Εὐδοξίου πρεσβυτέρου καὶ ἐκ προσώπου Μετελλουπόλεως: Mansi XIII 373. Elsewhere he is styled Εὐδόξιος πρεσβύτερος, μοναχὸς καὶ ἐκ προσώπου τοῦ θρόνου τοῦ Μετελλουπόλεως: Mansi XIII 149. At the fourth session he subscribed the statements read out from the Fathers in support of the veneration of icons: Mansi XIII 149. His name is missing from the list of those who subscribed the statement of the faith adopted by the Council at the seventh session, but he was present at the session and the omission may be due to a defect in the text.
