Erlolf 1 was bishop of Lingones (Langres, in Francia); he was one of the twelve bishops from Francia sent by Charlemagne and Carloman (Karoulos 1 and Karoulomannos 2) to attend the Council of Rome in April 769; they were chosen for their knowledge of Scriptures and the canon law (see text cited under Ado 2): Lib. Pont. 96. 17 ("Erlolfos, episcopus civitate Linguionensis"). He is named eleventh in the list of bishops from Francia.
