Epiphanios 40 was metropolitan bishop of Rhodes; owner of a seal dateable to the eighth century: DOSeals II 54.2 = Zacos and Veglery 1874 = Laurent, Corpus V 3, no. 1770 (cf. 1746). Obv.: cruciform monogram of Θεοτόκε βοήθει with Επι - φα - νι - ω in the corners. Rev.: + - μιτρο - πολιτη - ..δου. The name and title read: Ἐπιφανίῳ μητροπολίτῃ Ῥόδου. Laurent, Corpus V 3, no. 1746, read the name of the see, wrongly, as Syllaion.
