Eirenaios 4 was a deacon, archon of the blattion and kommerkiarios of Abydos; owner of two similar seals, possibly from the same boulloterion and dateable to the eighth century: DOSeals III 40.14a and b = Zacos and Veglery 1862a and b. Obv.: cruciform monogram of Θεοτόκε βοήθει, with Ει - ρη - νε - ω in the corners. Rev.: +διακ - ονω αρχ - ον του βλα - τιου και κομ - .βυδου. The name and titles read: Εἰρηνέῳ διακόνῳ ἄρχοντι τοῦ βλατίου καὶ κομμερκιαρίῳ Ἀβύδου. The letters κομ could perhaps be expanded to read κόμιτι. He is probably identical with Eirenaios, who owned another seal also dateable to the eighth century, of which only one half survives but which corresponds closely to the above: Laurent, Orghidan 254. Obv.: traces of a cruciform monogram of Θεοτόκε βοήθει, with Ει - .. - νε- ω in the corners. Rev. (only the end of the lines on the right survive): ...κ - ...αρχ - ...βλα - ...ομ - ...ου. Laurent read the name and title as: Εἰρηναίῳ ..καὶ ἄρχ[οντι τοῦ] βλα[ττείου] <κ>ομ[μερ]<κί>ου. Equally possible, however, by comparison with the above, is the reading: [δια]κ[όνω] ἀρχ[οντι τοῦ] βλα[ττίου καὶ κ]ομ[μερκιαρίῳ Ἀβύδ]ου.
