Drosos 3 was protonotarios of the Opsikion, anagrapheus and spatharios during the iconoclast persecution under Theophilos 5; although himself one of the persecuting iconoclasts, he visited St Ioannikios 2 for his blessing; Ioannikios 2 warned him cryptically of his impending death, telling him to put his papers in order as the ruler (ὁ βασιλεὺς) was demanding his accounts; Drosos 3 misunderstood and returned to his duties but shortly afterwards, after arriving at the Metata in Lydia, he fell ill and died: Sabas, Vita Ioannicii 42 (εἷς τις ἐξ αὐτῶν, sc. the persecutors, τοῦ Ὀψικίου πρωτονοτάριος ἀναγραφεὺς καὶ σπαθάριος Δρόσος; (later) εἰς τὴν ἄδικον ἐκείνην καταγραφὴν διερχόμενος, ὡς ἤδη ἔφθασε περὶ τὰ μητάτα Λυδίας, ἀποθνήσκει συντόμως), Petrus, Vita Ioannicii 67 (ὁ σπαθάριος Δρόσος, ὅ ποτε γεγονὼς ἀντιγραφεὺς τοῦ Ὀψικίου, διατρίβων ἐν τῇ ἀναγραφῇ; he visited the saint, who allegedly addressed him as ὦ σπαθάριε; he then returned to the Metata where he fell ill and died). Cf. also Drosos 2.
