Diogenes 2 was vir magnificentissimus, asekretis and sekretarios basilikos; he translated letters from pope Agatho (Agatho 1) and the Council of Rome of 680 into Greek; they were then read out at the fourth session of the Third Council of Constantinople (the Sixth Ecumenical Council) (on 15 November 680): Riedinger, p. 52, lines 10-12 (= Mansi XI 232) (Καὶ προεκομίσθη δι' Ἑλληνικῶν γραμμάτων ἡ τῶν εἰρημένων ἀναφορῶν ἑρμηνεία διὰ Διογένους τοῦ μεγαλοπρεπεστάτου ἀσηκρῆτις σεκρεταρίου βασιλικοῦ). The Latin version printed in Riedinger, p. 53, lines 9-10, gives his titles as "Diogenem magnificum asecretam et imperialem secretarium". At the eighth session (on 7 March 681) he read out the three volumes (κωδίκια) prepared by Makarios 1 and his followers and containing statements from the Fathers supporting monotheletism: Riedinger, p. 218, lines 4-5 (= Mansi XI 349) (διὰ Διογένους ἀσεκρέτις σεκρεταρίου βασιλικοῦ), p. 232, lines 24-27 (= Mansi 360) (Διογένους τοῦ μεγαλοπρεπεστάτου ἀσεκρέτις καὶ σεκρεταρίου βασιλικοῦ). At the ninth session (8 March) he read out from the evidence collected by Makarios 1 so that the text could be compared with that of copies of the Fathers in the patriarchal library: Riedinger, p. 268, lines 19-20 (= Mansi XI 381) (Διογένης ὁ μεγαλοπρεπέστατος ἀσεκρέτης καὶ βασιλικὸς σεκρετάριος).
