Demetrios 5 was hypatos, basilikos kommerkiarios of the abydos of Thessalonike; owner of seals dateable to the ninth century: DOSeals I 18.2 (= Zacos and Veglery 1852c) (obv.: cruciform monogram of Θεοτόκε βοήθει with τω - σω - δου - λω in the corners; rev.: Δημη[τ]ρίῳ ὑπάτ[], β[ασιλικῷ] κομερκ[ιαρίῳ] [τοῦ] ἀβύδ[ου] Θε[σ]σαλον[ίκης ]; on the reading, see Nesbitt and Oikonomides, DOSeals I, p. 51, note), 18.3 (obv.: cruciform monogram of Θεοτόκε βοήθει with τω - σω - δου - λω in the corners; rev.: Διμητρίῳ ὑπάτ[], β[ασιλικῷ] κο[με]ρκ[ιαρίῳ] [τ]οῦ ἀβύδ[ου] Θ[εσαλονίκησ]; three similar seals are Zacos and Veglery 1852, with the same alignment but not from the same boulloterion). On the abydos of Thessalonike, see Nesbitt and Oikonomides, DOSeals I, p. 50 with references.
