David 6 was patrikios, basilikos protospatharios and strategos of Sicily; owner of a seal dateable to the eighth or ninth century): DOSeals I 5.16 = Zacos and Veglery 2612. Obv.: cruciform monogram of Θεοτόκε βοήθει with τω - σω - δου - λω in the corners. Rev.: Δα[βὶδ] πατρηκ[ίῳ] β[ασιλικῳ] πρωτοσπαθ[αρίῳ] [καὶ] στρατηγο [Σ]ηκελήας, ἀμήν (sic). The reading of the name is uncertain; Zacos and Veglery suggested the name Ἰωάννη but Nesbitt and Oikonomides, DOSeals, loc. cit., preferred to read the first letter as Δ.
