Daniel 12 was the brother of Euthymios 11: Sabas, Vita Ioannicii 31. Daniel 12 was hegoumenos of the monastery of Thasios, situated on a small island of the same name in the north of lake Apollonias in Bithynia: Sabas, Vita Ioannicii 31 (τὴν κατὰ βορρὰν τῆς Ἀπολλωνιάδος λίμνης κειμένην μονὴν καὶ νῆσον ὀνομαζομένην Θὰσιον ... He and his monks met Ioannikios 2 on Thasios when Ioannikios 2 arrived there on his way home after visiting the tomb of Theophanes Confessor (Theophanes 18); according to Petros 126 they welcomed him as a prophet of God; at their entreaty Ioannikios 2 drove a mighty serpent away from the island: Sabas, Vita Ioannicii 31, Petrus, Vita Ioannicii 37. Daniel 12 accompanied Ioannikios 2 back into the solitudes of the mountains and caves (of Mt Olympus in Bithynia) to a place called Toparche, where they spent some time living in separate caves; afterwards he accompanied him back to Mt Trichalix: Sabas, Vita Ioannicii 32, Petrus, Vita Ioannicii 53.
