Blatta 1 is identifiable as the mother of the bishop of Rome, John VII (Ioannes 228), and the wife of Platon 13. Her epitaph survives, composed by her son Ioannes 228, on the same marble as that of Platon 13, formerly in the Church of the Martyr Christopher at Rome: see Duchesne, Lib. Pont. I, p. 386, n. 1 (= Marini, P. Dip., p. 368 = Rossi, ICVR II 442, no. 153). She is styled "Blatta inlustris femina" and died at the age of sixty on 17 April 687.
