Bertrada 1 was the wife of the Frankish ruler Pepin 1; she accompanied Pepin 1, their sons and the leaders of the Franks to greet pope Stephen III (II) (Stephanos 8) on his arrival in Francia (in Jan. 754): Lib. Pont. 94. 25 (she is not named here; her name is recorded in the Frankish sources). Bertrada 1 was the wife of Pepin 1 and the mother of Karoulos 1 (Charlemagne) and Karoulomannos 2: Annales Einhard. s.a. 755, 770, Annales Laurissenses Maiores.a 755, 700 ("Berthrada regina").
