Benediktos 5 was bishop (of Nomentum) and vicedominus; sent with Ambrosios 1 by pope Zacharias 16 in 742/743 to the Lombard king Liutprand 1 with a request to stop besieging Ravenna and to return Caesena to the people of Ravenna; the king refused and Zacharias 16 himself left Rome to try: Lib. Pont. 93. 12 ("per Benedictum episcopum et vicedominum atque Ambrosium primicerium notariorum"). Benediktos 5 subscribed the Council of Rome in 745 as bishop of Nomentum: see Duchesne, Lib. Pont., p. 437, n. 24.
