Basilios 140 was an envoy sent by the emperor Theophilos 5 to the caliph al-Mutasim 1 (Abu Ishaq) after the capture of Amorion to discuss peace; Basilios 140 was a noble from Karshena; he took gifts and two letters from the emperor Theophilos 5, one in friendly terms and another hostile which he was to present if al-Mutasim 1 would not accept peace; the caliph al-Mutasim 1 made unacceptable demands and Basilios 140 presented the second letter; the caliph al-Mutasim 1 then dismissed Basilios 140 and returned the emperor's gifts by him: Bar Hebr., p. 138, Mich.
