Basilios 118 was a monk in c. 808 when he wrote a critical letter to Theodoros 15 (Theodore the Stoudite), accusing Theodoros 15 of schism and heresy in the affair of Ioseph 2 and the Moechian Controversy; Basilios 118's own position had apparently changed from condemnation of Ioseph 2 to one of approval; Theodoros 15 replied with a long letter (Ep. 28, pp. 75-80) in defence of his own position; Basilios 118 is described as formerly a disciple of Sabas 4 (p. 78, line 83); he was apparently a contemporary of Theodoros 15 and younger than Platon 1 (τοῦ κοινοῦ πατρὸς τέκνον χρηματίζουσα: p. 78, line 82); he was a fellow monk of Theodoros 15, who styles him ὁμάδελφος (p. 78, line 85) and addresses him as ὦ ἀδελφέ (p. 80, line 135), and alludes to σου τὰ γράμματα τῆς ἀδελφικῆς ἀγάπης (p. 75, line 2), ἡ σὴ τιμιότης (p. 78, line 88), and ἡ σὴ φιλότης (p. 79, line 18): Theod. Stud., Ep. 28, pp. 75-80 (addressed Βασιλείῳ μονάζοντι). For the date, c. 808, cf. Fatouros, p. 170*, n. 106 (shortly after Ep. 25, pp. 67-70; Ep. 28, pp. 75-80, was written nine years after the deposition of Ioseph 2).

Basilios 118 is possibly identical with Basilios 128 (addressee of Theod. Stud., Ep. 361, pp. 494-495); see Fatouros, p. 170*, n. 103.
