Basilios 58 was bishop of Parion (in Thrace); Basilios 58 was an iconophile and suffered severely from the iconoclast persecution; it was he who consecrated Ignatios 1 (future patriarch of Constantinople) as a priest, taking him through the stages of anagnostes, hupodiakonos (sub-deacon), diakonos and priest: Nicetas, Vita Ignatii 497A-B The date was therefore during one of the periods of persecution. See further Synax. Eccl. Const. 597,19-28 (12 April), 599/600,49 (13 April), 601/602,47 (14 April), Menol.
