basilios 47 was archbishop of Nikopolis (Nikopolis in Epirus and Nikopolis ad Istrum in Thrace both had archbishops; it is uncertain which was his see); owner of a seal dateable to the eighth or ninth century: Laurent, Corpus V 1, 671 = DOSeals II 2.10. Obv.: Virgin holding medallion of Child, with the legend See Laurent, op. cit., p. 505, note. The seal is dated to the eighth or ninth century by Laurent, to the ninth century by the editors of DOSeals. There is a parallel specimen recorded in DO Seals, ad loc., published by Likhachev, Molivdovuly, 157, plate LXVIII, no. 5.
