Basakios 4 was a spatharokandidatos; owner of a seal dateable to the first half of the eighth century: Zacos and Veglery 3213. Obv.: cruciform monogram of Θεοτόκε βοήθει, with Βα - σα - κι - ω in the corners. Rev.: σπαθα - ρωκανδ - ιδατω. The name and title read: Βασακίῳ σπαθαροκανδιδάτῳ. The seal published in Laurent, Vat. 72 is apparently a forgery based on this seal ("une copie métallique", based on a seal in the Shaw Collection, according to Laurent): obv.: cruciform monogram of Κύριε βοήθει, with Βα - σα - κι - ω in the corners; rev.: +- σπαθα - ρωκανδ - ιδατω - +. Cf. Basakios 1, and see Laurent, Vat. 72, note, and Zacos and Veglery 3213 note.
