Basakios 2 was a patrikios; owner of a seal dateable to the late seventh or early eighth century: Seibt, Bleisiegel I, no. 133. Obv.: invocative monogram of Θεοτόκε βοήθει. Rev.: +Βα - σακιω - πατρι - κιω. Possibly owner of a similar seal (but of provincial character), Zacos and Veglery 2570 (reading: Θεοτόκε βοήθει τῷ δούλῳ σου Βασακίῳ πατρικίῳ), but not of a seal (unpublished) from Birmingham (obv.: an eagle with an invocative monogram of Θεοτόκε βοήθει; rev.: +Βασακίου) (see Seibt, pp. 265-6).
Basakios 2 is perhaps to be identified with Vasak Bagratuni, patrikios of Armenia in 732; see Seibt, loc. cit., for references. The name is derived from the Armenian name Vasak.
