Barnabas 4 was a Stoudite monk, whose death while still young is mentioned in one of the sermons of Theodoros 15 (Theodore the Stoudite); Barnabas 4 and Miles 1 are associated as two ἀδελφοί; the sermon that records their deaths also records as a recent event that of Euprepianos 1, who died in 818; Barnabas 4 and Miles 1 were probably living in exile as supporters of icon veneration at the time: Theod. Stud., Catech. Parva 9 (p. 34 Auvray).
