Azarias 1 was a basilikos klerikos and kouboukleisios; owner of a seal dateable to the second half of the ninth century: Zacos, Seals II 792. Obv.: bust of Virgin, with Child; circular inscription reading Θ(εοτό)κε βοήθει τῷ σῷ δούλῳ. Rev.: +Αζαρηα - β' κληρηκο - (καὶ) κουβουκ - λησηο. The name and titles read: Ἀζαρίᾳ βασιλικῷ κληρικῷ καὶ κουβουκλεις ίῳ.
