Autpert 1 was a man of learning ("vir eruditissimus"); he was the abbot (abbas) of the monastery of Vincentius the martyr near to the river Vulturnus; author of a history of his monastery, in which he claimed that its founders were three noble Lombard brothers, Tato 1, Tasso 1 and Paldo 1: Paul. Diac., Hist. Lang. VI 40 ("sicut viri eruditissimi Autperti eiusdem monasterii abbatis in volumine, quod de hac re composuit, scripta significant"). The date of Autpert 1 is presumably no later than the middle or late eighth century, since his work was known to Paul the Deacon (Paulos 52).
